A Notes/Domino database is a client-server application. Changes to the database are replicated between Notes and Domino servers in a distributed network. Both applications use the client/server model to communicate. In addition, the Lotus Notes server can coordinate with other intranet applications. A lot of people prefer to use Lotus and Domino databases because of their backward compatibility. These two applications are designed to meet different business needs and are an excellent combination.

A Domino database shares a common transaction log. The transaction log is divided into smaller files known as log extents. Each log extent is 64MB in size. To control the size of the transaction log, the Maximum Message Size is set to 4GB. Reusable archived log extents are used to reduce the Maximum Log Size. This feature is also used to manage the volume of data on a server. The Notes Server can manage the volume of the data by marking the archived log extents as available for reuse.

A security stamp controls the access to the extended directory catalog and the Domino directory. It is crucial to ensure the integrity of the data stored in the database and to control the actions of other users. A security stamp prevents access to documents created by others from being modified. This is also important if you plan to use the database for critical business applications. The iDataAgent has the ability to run daily incremental and full backups of your Domino database and documents. With this technology, you can be sure that your database is fully backed up.

A Lotus Notes database iDataAgent can use a custom database catalog. The Notes database has a time stamp that indicates when it was created and when it was last run by the Fixup task. Its name is the unique identifier of the database. The catalog also enables you to associate a specific database with specific entries in the database’s transaction log. If your company uses iDataAgent, you can choose this option.

There are three different database catalogs. The first one contains the information about the database and can be added to users’ desktops. The other has the time stamp that indicates when the database was created and when the Fixup task was run last. This value is located in the Notes database header and associates a particular Notes database with specific entries in the transaction log. Once you’ve added a new note, the corresponding id and password are automatically updated.

To configure your database, you must have permissions to create the database. This permission is required for the Domino web server and for Lotus Notes. The user account must be a member of the Administrators group and must be a manager on the server. This permission must be granted to the administrator of the system. This data path is used to separate the data paths of each partition. Each partition has a primary data path. The other databases are linked to the primary one.
